I have created a document in our business version of Office365 SharePoint group and shared it with 9 people.

However, I need to unshare from a couple of them and can't, for the life of me, find a way to do it.

Hi Jools,

Thanks for the updated information.

If we shared a document which stored on SharePoint online document library, we should be able to stop sharing the document if we'd like to do so. Please note that if we share a document with other people by sharing link, the person's name will not appear on the permissions page of the document, we just need to remove the sharing link.

Please try the followings to see if you can stop sharing the document:

1.Open the document in Office online via browser, then navigate to the Permissions page of the document by one of the following:

a) If you open the document in Edit view, go to FILE tab>Share>Share with people>click three dots in the Share dialog box>manage Access.

b) if you open the document in read view, click Share button on the upper-right corner>click three dots in the Share dialog box>manage Access.

2.On the permissions page of the document, click the Cross icon if there is any to remove any sharing link,

We can also stop sharing the document with the site members:

If you can't stop sharing after trying the steps above, could you help provide the following information to let us better understand your situation?

  1. Where is the document stored? Is it stored in a SharePoint online document library?
  2. How did you share the document with 9 people? By sharing a link of the document with others or else? Please let us know the detailed steps about how you share the document.
  3. Regarding "I have already tried this 3 times with no success so far.", does it mean you can finish the steps above but these people still are able to access the document? If you can't finish the steps, please let us know which steps you stuck at and share a screenshot to let us better understand your situation.
  4. Please share a screenshot of the permissions page of the document.

Regards,

Joanne

    Hi Joanne,

Thank you for the information, however, I have already tried this 3 times with no success so far.

It just needs a cross next to the shared with people's names.  Why does MS have to make it so difficult?  Surely removing access for someone is as important as being able to share a document?  With Data Protection and system hacking such a priority, surely this should be at the top of MS's list.

Thank you again for taking the time to respond to my question, it was much appreciated :-)
