Hi,

I am attempting to solve an issue where I am attempt to edit a document such as an Excel sheet or Word document that is stored on my school OneDrive on the local version of the program instead the in-browser version. I have attached a series of photos to show the process. Between the second and third photo I have entered my school provided email. As soon as I click next, Word minimizes and when I maximize it again the sign in window is gone.

Looks like there is some confusion between Word and OneDrive. The screen caps indicate you do have an active Office license on your laptop.

Frankly I can't imagine what is going on between Onedrive/Windows/Word. As a workaround, try downloading the file from OneDrive to your local computer, then opening it.

I'd suggest trying a couple of steps to see if that corrects the problem for you.

    1. First, an add-in or extension may be causing the problem. Start the application in Office Safe Mode.

The instructions to start Office in safe mode are here:

    1. If that doesn't correct the problem, try repairing the installation.

The instructions to follow to do this are here:

    1. Create a new user profile in Windows and see if it works correctly for the new profile

Thanks for the advice Jason. I neglected to mention that I am able to use other computers to edit locally, just not my personal laptop.

It depends on the Office license that your school has. For the basic version documents can only be edited online.

I suggest talking to your school’s IT department to see what license it has.
