Hi

In Mac Word 2011/2016: How one can change numerals (e.g., auto page number) format from English to Context or Hindi (like in Windows).  I can type in Arabic or Farsi, but for auto page numbering (header/footer), how can I change from English? It should be embedded somewhere in 'preferences', but I cannot find it.

Cheers

Hi Sanam1986,

Thanks for the clarification.

According to my research and test, the numeral feature is feasible in Word 2016 for Windows only if an Arabic language is enabled for editing text. You can refer to this article: Word options (Advanced).

It is not feasible to achieve this feature in Word 2016 for Mac at this moment. Given the situation, we welcome and encourage you to submit the feedback via Word for Mac User Voice. Providing your feedback is the best way to perfect your products and services.

Thank you for your understanding.

Rodney

Thanks for the quick reply. But that's not what I'm looking for.

For Windows MS Word, there is Options --> Advance, and one can select a value for 'numeral' from System, Context, Hindi. For example, if the value is 'Context', then 123 would be appear as 123, but if the value is 'Hindi', then 123 would appear as ۱۲۳. This is how numeral values are written in a few languages such as Farsi (Persian). This is necessary when one wants to have inserted page numbers in a Farsi document.

I cannot find anything as such on Mac Word --> Preferences.

I have heard that Mac Word 2016 added this to preferences, but still cannot find it.

    Hope this clarifies it.

    Hi Sanam1986,

In your case, if you mean that you want to change Number format for page numbers, you may try the steps below:

    1. Go to Insert, click the Page Number icon and then click Format Page Numbers.
    2. You can choose the Number format (Arabic number, roman number, etc) by clicking the drop-down list.
    3. Do one of the following:

If you want the page numbering for the first page in this section to start at a particular number other than the first number in the format series, click Start at under Page numbering, and then enter the first number that you want to appear on the first page of the section.

If you want the page numbering to continue from the previous section, click Continue from previous section.

Here is an article for your reference: Add page numbers to a header or footer in Word 2016 for Mac.

If the above is not your scenario, could you share an example of your requirement for clarification? Meanwhile, about “from English to Context or Hindi”, we are not quite sure about this description.

    Best Regards,

    Rodney
