Office for Android Apps keep crashing

Anonymous
2017-08-01T09:14:48+00:00

Device: Sony Xperia Z5

OS: Android 7.1.1

Security Patch Level: 1 June 2017

Outlook - works fine

Office 365 app - I can install it but not log on with my University account, only my personal account (not the main issue here, I will log it in a separate thread).

Excel - keeps crashing immediately when I try to open it - message "Excel keeps stopping" - options -Close app and Send feedback

Word - keeps crashing immediately when I try to open it - message "Word keeps stopping" - options -Close app and Send feedback

I can't do anything with the Excel or Word app. I have tried clearing the app caches, completely reinstalling, only installing one app at a time, you name it. Nothing works. I don't have issues with ANY other apps so I'm really trying to avoid a factory reset.

With all the troubleshooting steps said and done, the applications may have encountered a corrupted system file that caused compatibility issues with your phone. With this being said, as our last resort, we suggest that you perform a factory reset and reinstall the Office applications. Kindly make sure to have a backup on your files before performing a factory reset.

Let us know the results.

I just came back from a 7 week holiday (I didn't take my phone so it was left at home out of date and not with any of the Microsoft products installed on it).

Upon my return my phone did two small system updates which required restarts. Once I did them and then installed the latest copies of Excel, Powerpoint, OneNote and Word they started working. No idea what specifically solved the issue (as there was several things I did) but in short.... take a holiday! :P It'll do wonders! Even for your phone apparently!

Update to add: I always get the crashing message when I access the Outlook app as well.

So the Outlook app itself works fine, but if I have Word or Excel installed and I open the Outlook app I will immediately get the message "Excel keeps stopping" - options -Close app and Send feedback, or "Word keeps stopping" - options -Close app and Send feedback
