Cannot Delete Minor Versions

We are trying to delete some Minor Versions of older documents but receive an error indicating that the document is on Hold or Retention Policy is enforced. I have not been able to find the "hold" or retention policy for the document. I cannot delete any version regardless of the site, i.e. all documents. Any suggestions??

    Hi Kfberns,

Please confirm whether this issue is related to all file that older than 2 years. You can try delete other old file's minor versions to check it.

Besides, please check whether this policy is broken, please turn off it(it may take a day to come into effect) to see if you can deleted your minor versions.

Please also share with me some info about your tenant. To protect your privacy, please share with me your info via Private Message.

    Thanks,

    Neo

We have no Holds in eDiscovery - nothing is listed there. Under Retention we have a 2 year Policy but there seems to be an error. I was not able to find where to view the error.

I turned the Status OFF and then ON, and it is currently showing (On Pending).

The file example in the previous post shows a file date within the 2 year period so it makes sense that this file cannot be deleted, however there are many minor file versions much older than 2 years that we still cannot delete.

    Any thoughts??

    Thanks

    Hi Kfberns,

To troubleshoot this issue, I’d like to suggest you check Hold or Retention Policy in your tenant. You can follow the steps below to do that:

    1. To check the hold settings, make sure you go to Office 365 admin center>Security & Compliance>Search & investigation>eDiscovery, check if there is any case, open the case>choose the “Hold” tab to see if there’s any hold settings.
    2. To check the retention policy, please make sure you go to Office 365 admin center>Security & Compliance>Data Governance>Retention, check if there is any related policy, select the policy then see the detailed information, under “Applies to content in these locations”, check if the site collection your related file stored is in the list.

    Thanks,

    Neo
