Project Online / Project Web Access / Project Server - Enterprise Resources Vacations

Hello,

I am the admin of my project server / online and I would like to add vacations for specific resoruces.

I have created already the enterprise calendar shared by all resources, but when trying to add specific non-working hours to a specific resources (like when doing so in Projects Professional (local file) I got a message that the vacations could be only updated in the timesheets.

We are yet a small company and do not need the timesheets functionality.

I would like to know if there is any way as a PWA admin / Project Manager / Resources Manager I would be able to update / edit resources vacations.

I know  options would be to:

  1. create manual tasks for vacations to which I would assign the relevant resource.
  2. create an enterprise calendar for each resource and add the resource specific vacation there.

These 2 options look like a workaround rather than a proper solution.

Any insights / suggestion on how to do this properly?

Thank you!

    Jonathan --

Each resource in your Enterprise Resource Pool already has their own enterprise calendar, so that is where you can add the planned vacation time.  To do this, navigate to the Resource Center page in PWA, select the checkboxes for the resources whose calendars you want to edit, and then check them out for editing in Microsoft Project.  In Microsoft Project, double-click the name of each resource individually, and then click the Change Working Time button in the Resource Information dialog.  In the Change Working Time dialog, select the dates of vacation in the calendar grid at the top, and then enter Vacation or PTO in the data grid at the bottom.  Click the OK button and this will add the vacation for the resource.  Do this for each checked out resource and you are in business.

By the way, I also want to give you a "virtual" pat on the back for wanting to add vacation to each resource's calendar in Project Online/Project Server.  You will be helping your PMs to have more accurate project schedules as a result.  Way go to, my friend!  Hope this helps.
