Compile error in hidden module when stating Excel 2016

Problem/symptom:

When opening Excel we immediately get an error message "Compile error in hidden module". The message box can be closed and Excel seems to work with no problems. This is happening on all the computers in the office. All computers are using the Windows 10 64bit OS. They all also have Norton Internet Security installed. This problem started at the beginning of January 2018.

Action taken:

Searched the Internet for solution/causes for this error message. I found the one describing the removal of certain files in the excel startup folders both the one down in the Program Files/Microsoft/ and the one in the hidden Roaming folder area. Both locations had NO files in the startup. I discovered Microsoft C++ 2017 was installed around the same time the problem started. I uninstalled 2017 C++ but left the older one alone. This did not change the problem.

Question:

What steps should I try next?

Thank you

Larry

    Hi Larry,

If you suddenly encountered an error with any Office apps without really knowing the exact cause other than having some changes done on the PC, it is best to do an Office Repair first. This should help automatically fix the issue that you are having. Please do not forget to restart the PC once done.

As an additional reference, we also suggest checking out the answer of JLLatham from this **link**https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_excel-mso_other-mso_2010/compile-error-in-hidden-module-module-1/269f7ba3-b6bd-4768-97f1-64b2ac8a6428and see if it helps.

Do post back for any feedback.

    Regards.
