Microsoft Project- Problem With updating resources

Hi everyone,

I am doing an assignment for my project management class. However I made an error in typing a resource consumption of one of the activities: in fact for one of the resources, I typed 100% instead of 1200% (so 12 workers). ![](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/c6a1b7d1-6404-40d7-b854-a0a3478a91d6?platform=QnA)

The 8thousands dollars are due to the fact that the activity lasts 8 weeks and for each worker I have to pay 1000 dollars per week.

I tried to correct that, but as you can see the cost does not change (I tried to close and open the file):

and this message appears:

The project that I have to implement is constituted by activities with fixed duration. This cost is spread out on all the activity.

What should I do?

    Try this:

    1. Apply the Gantt Chart view in the project.
    2. Select the task in question.
    3. Right-click anywhere in the Gantt Chart pane and select the Show Split item on the shortcut menu.
    4. In the Task Form Pane, set the Task Type value to Fixed Duration and click the OK button.
    5. In the Task Form Pane, set the Duration value back to 8 weeks (40 days) or whatever the Duration should be, and then click the OK button again.
    6. In the Task Form pane, set the Units value for the resource to 1200% and then click the OK button again.

    Hope this helps.

No, changing the resource from Work to Material will not help at all.  When you say the process "did not work", what exactly did not work?  Please let us know we will try to assist you.

    Dear Dale,

there was a misunderstanding. I used your method, which did not work, and while doing that I realized that the problem could be related to the nature of the tasks.

What about transforming the resources from work to materials and fixing the duration of the tasks?

It did not work because you did not follow my directions.  Based on your description of the problem, you need to use the Fixed Duration task type, which will lock or fix the Duration value.  Fixed Units will not work for your situation.  And there is no way to lock or fix both the Units and Duration values.  You can only lock one of them.  Hope this helps.

Thank you for your answer, unfortunately it didn't work. My tasks are all in fixed units, could it be the reason? For this project the duration for my tasks is fixed, but also the consumption of resources for each activity is fixed.
