All of my Word Document Icons look strange. How can they be changed to look like the typical "Word" icon?

One way the icons can look strange is if the icon cache is corrupted . The other way is if the Windows Default File Association for the file type was changed to another application.

Jamshed's suggestion is OK for single programs or file types. But if one of the Office file types is messed up more may. In that case it is easier to do an Office Repair. One of the steps in the repair process is resetting the Windows Default for ALL Office file types.

If that doesn't work, can you give us a screen capture of the icon. That may give us a clue

The site owners have listened and made the process of posting images easier (but not easiest, yet). The link above details the process.

The replies are HTML files, you cannot paste images directly into them like a Word DOC(X) file. Instead you have to provide, in one form or another, a HTML link to a picture file that is available on the internet.

In short form, the image must be in PNG, JPG, GIF, and BMP format. Use the “Add Image” button that is on the same line as the “Bold”, “Italic”, “Underline” feature buttons.

So, you will first have to save screen captures to a file on your HD or the internet, ie onedrive, before you can insert them in the discussion using the “Add Image” button.

NOTE: I would like to get screen captures of all of the error messages but I don’t have 365 so I fortunately don’t get to experience the joy of these errors.

Note: One “fix” you can apply to all of these problems.

If you are using a browser other than MS Internet Explorer, try repeating the process (ie Windows update or Office Install) using IE. A couple of people have noticed that this alone is enough to fix some problems.
