viewing protected embedded document in Excel

Hello,

I have embedded a Word 2010 document into an Excel 2010 spreadsheet on Windows 7. I would like to protect both the worksheet and the document, but if I protect the worksheet the document cannot be opened, which means only the first page is visible. Is there a way to let someone open and read the document but not edit it? Or (better yet) edit it only to add comments?

Thank you!

    Hi,

Protecting a worksheet prevents other users from accidentally or deliberately changing, moving, or deleting data in a worksheet. Since you embedded a Word document into a protected Excel worksheet, you can allow other users of the worksheet to add or edit the document. You just need to check Edit objects in the Allow all users of this worksheet tolist when you use the Protect Sheet option.

It is designed that if there is an embedded Word document in a spreadsheet, it will only show the first page. Having this feature is a good idea, we suggest that you submit your query using Excel UserVoice. We consider suggestions and comments provided by our users. These queries are being collated, reviewed, and can be considered for future updates.

    Thanks for responding!

The thing is I don't want other users to be able to edit the document - just to read it. But if I protect the spreadsheet, they can't read it, because it doesn't open. And that means only the first page is visible.
