Cannot edit Excel spreadsheets

I have been editing a shared with me excel worksheet for several months and about 2 months ago it quit allowing me to edit.  When I first choose the sheet it comes up with all of the tab icons live, but once I try to click on a tab sheet at the bottom or try to edit in any way, it says "rerconnecting" or tells me how to work offline.  I haven't had the problem before.  My husband also edits a different set of spreadsheets and his works fine on his computer and my computer, but if he tries to edit my spreadsheet on his computer or on mine, it does not work.  So I decided today to try editing my spreadsheet from work...thinking it might be our internet or computer, etc.  I can edit the spreadsheet at work, no problem, so I am thinking it might have something to do with security setup on that particular set of spreradsheets; however, I was able to edit until a few months ago.  I did update my office program for 2017 in April, then again in May (just switiching from one computer to 5.

    • Are you using Excel web app for editing this spreadsheet?
    • Were you the one who originally created this spreadsheet?
    • Did this issue occur after you updated your Office programs last May?
