Renaming Sheet: Infinite Loop

I'm trying to rename a tab in MS Excel and no matter what name I enter (even a single character), I get the same error message in an infinite loop: "While renaming a sheet or chart, you entered an invalid name."  I'm not using special characters, the name is short, so not sure how to get out of this loop other than forcing the app to quit.

Are you trying to rename the tab "History"?  You can't. That's a reserved word.

Go to the Excel menu and choose About Excel. Make sure you have version 14.7.7

If you need to update, please follow these instructions:

Ensure your Mac and Office have the latest updates. Here’s how to install updates:

Make sure your Mac has a working internet connection, then:

  1. Update Mac OS X. Open the App store and click on the Updates button. Install the updates.
  2. After, in any Office application go to the Help menu and choose Check for Updates to launch the AutoUpdate app. Let AutoUpdate install updates and then restart your Mac.
