We currently have a Azure synapse analytics connected to an Azure analysis service through which we do in memory reporting from PowerBi We have a recent requirement of introducing a new source (Azure SQL DB) for a different country's data in a different subscription and resource group. The table schema of this new source is also different. We are using direct query and import modes for PowerBI reporting.

My question is, can we use the same AAS instance to connect to the new Azure SQL so we can use the same tabular model on AAS for our PowerBi reports? When selecting the reports, how will AAS know whether to pick up the data from the DB or the DWH? Will this be controlled at the report level , i.e. report A --? DWH, report B --> DB or some other means?

    Hello anonymous user ,
Thanks for the ask and using the Microsoft Q&A platform .

Just to be clear in the as is scenerio the country schema already exists in the current model and the the to be plan is to get the data from a different source . I think you should import the new country data with a new schema and then you will have to update the queries accordingly . One other option which I can think of is to make the changes on the powerBI reports , You can import the new country data and in PBI reports as a new a data source and then use the transformation .

Please do let me know how it goes .
    Thanks
    Himanshu
