Solver time out?

Hello,

until recently Solver was pausing (with the pop-up "Stop-Continue") much earlier than my time out parameter setting (like 1M seconds, in the Options) - I tried to increase the parameter to very high and a very low number, 100?) and Solver started to pause immediately showing the pop up - I tried to swithch on the parameter about showing intermediate results (again in the Options), no way, I could not run Solver any more, it would pause immediately: what in the beginning was an inconvenience (unable to put a proper time out) looked now like a show stopper

workaround: so I decided to go back, "show intermediate results" off, time out again 1M secs..

and so far it seems to behave as before, pausing after a few hours..

if you have an explanation or better workarounds..

thanks

Renato

    hi Dora,

    1.  Excel 15.33
    2. I have plenty of anomalies, but this one I think only when I tried to lengthen the time out (1M secs corresponded to perhaps 2-3 hours, too short to exploit a night run, instead of about 280hrs=1M secs)
    3. to reproduce the problem,

    a. I set "Show Iteration Results

    b. then enter 1Bsec max time

    c. after perhaps 20 sec comes the Solver Parameters pop up, I click Solve

    d. after another perhaps a minute later comes the warning message: its comes from time to time, in whatever processing going on, but I think it has nothing to do with Solver

    e. Solver sets problem up (a couple of minutes perhaps) than starts processing results - les than 1 minute later the Show Trial Solution pop up comes on

    f. I click Stop and last pop-up comes on

this to reproduce the fast pause problem - passing by there other anomalies worth reporting:

    g. at several points in the above sequence the cursor disappears: I recover it clicking (blindly) on my secondary monitor on some menu bar (es Finder)

    h. even with the Show Trial Solution pop-up open I have no idea what the trial solution is: the worksheet window is totally blank (except charts) and even with Keep Solver Solution I have no idea what the solution is

    thanks for the help

    Renato
