Excel Filter Dropdown Disappears after a Second

I use Data Validation, and I filter the rows by selecting (check boxes) whichever data values I want to filter the column. This has been working for me for years until a few days ago. When I click on the filter, the drop down with the data choices disappears within a second or two before I can click OK. So it's been like trying to catch the OK button within that 1-2 seconds. What is happening? Thanks for your help!

Found the answer!!! Do you have Dropbox open? Try closing dropbox and try excel or word again. It seems that Dropbox installed some updates that are not compatible with Excel and Word 2010 (maybe others). It worked for me and I am much relieved!!!

So glad it helped! My son actually found it for me on Reddit, so I can't take credit...but just wanted to pass it along. It certainly drove me crazy for a week!!

    Hi Pat,

Thank you for finding the answer! :-)

I disabled my Dropbox for now, and sure enough, the filter window now stays open.

I don't think this next issue appeared right away, but today, my cursor keys (up, down, left, right arrow keys) are not working in Excel. This might be new, since my Dropbox is not open now.

Great job Pat in isolating this !!  I disabled Dropbox and Excel filter drop-down dialogs stay in place now.
