MS Excel Scatter Chart Missing Axis Type Option

I don't see the option to select "date" as axis type in the attached scatter chart.  Can not figure out why it's not giving me the option to do so.

     - where it states:-

    a scatter chart never displays categories on the horizontal axis

     -and:-

    A scatter chart always has two value axes to show one set of numerical data along a horizontal (value) axis and another set of numerical values along a vertical (value) axis.

    I am working on a brand new MacBrook Pro with Excel for Mac (version 15.39) installed. I am having the same problem as Kimbrulay where formatting the horizontal axis does not allow me to pick the type (text or date).

    I do not see where in that link it addresses this issue. I am having the exact same issue as kimbrulay.
