Link table manager problem in access2016 - 'Table Name' is not a valid name. Make sure it does not include invalid characters or punctuation and that it is not too long

Hello everyone,

I am running Access 2016 with a BE and FE DB

I was able to create all the tables in the BE and link all the tables from the BE to the FE

I want to change the drive location of the BE. For that, I use the "link table manager" function.

All tables refresh perfectly well except 2 of them (around 20 tables in total)

I can open the table in the FE, edit records .... do every normal operation but impossible to run the link table manager on those 2 tables

Some times after closing and reopening the FE DB several time, I am able to run the link table manager on those 2 specific tables but ti is becoming very rare

All tables and field names seems correct to me

I have tried as well to delete the linked table and relink it - that part does work but after if I want to use the link table manager, I keep on getting the same error message

Any idea?

thanks and have a great day

J

Please don't piggy back on someone else's question.  Create your own question and reference this one if you think it has value.  The reason is simply to keep distinct issues from messing different questions up.  It may be similar, but may not be until we further examine your issue.

What version of Access are you running?  (for example - 1710 8625.2127)

Have you tried an office repair?

I'd probably simply recommend getting away from MS' LTM and try code or an alternate TM

and see if any of those work better.

    Hi Bill,

Thanks for the suggestion but it did not help

I did exactly what you suggested but I keep getting the same error message

Any other suggestion you might have?

I ran into a similar problem with one table. The table manager refused to relink it. I finally deleted the table link, compacted and linked to the table again and all was fine. I'm guessing there was a corrupt index in a system table that caused the problem.

    Hi Daniel,

the tables names are: [T_IdeaStatus_Tracking] and [T_KeyActor_PerIdea]

Other table names in the same DB have longer names and they work fine

And those tables exist in the BE DB without any issues

I have tried the "compact and repair database tools" both on the BE DB and FE DB without any success

I do not know what you mean by Decompiled and Compiled my DB

I have never used this function

How do I do this with Access 2016?

I have not tried to import everything into a blank DB

What I have done is delete the BE - FE DB table link and relinked it without any success

The really strange par tis that I can link the table by using the External Data Ribbon / Import Access DB but the link table manager does not work after

Is this helping you find out what's wrong?

    Thanks already for the help

    J

What are the table names in question?

I doubt it will make any difference, but have you decompiled. compacted, compiled, compacted your db?

Have you tried importing everything into a new blank db?
