Excel - Adding seconds to time and date

Currently we are importing data and then changing the date and time using a custom format to mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss and then saving as a .CSV .  When we reopen the file the time has left off the seconds, this has just started happening in the last week before this it worked fine.  Do you have a fix or has anyone experienced this issue as of late?

Hi Bernard,

You are right, the data (seconds) is not lost but IMHO is a little bit more complicated. It is related to the list separator.

I save a file with my default list separator (semicolon) and when opening it shows:

01/01/2017 04:45 01/01/2017 04:45
01/01/2017 04:45 01/01/2017 04:45
01/01/2017 04:45 01/01/2017 04:45

I saved the same data with another list separator (comma):

01/01/2017 04:45:35,01/01/2017 04:45:35
01/01/2017 04:45:36,01/01/2017 04:45:36
01/01/2017 04:45:37,01/01/2017 04:45:37

Of course, quite normal that all is in 1 column (not my default LS).

But the OP mention: this has just started happening in the last week before this it worked fine.

Therefore, I think he/she has to look that way.

    I just did an experiment:

    Typed 01/01/2017  4:45:35 into A1

    Saved the file as Book1.CSV

    Now A1 shows as 01/01/2017  4:45

    But if I format the cell with dd/mm/yy h:mm:ss I get back 01/01/2017  4:45:35

    best wishes
