Full Screen Reading Mode

Somehow, I opened a document in this mode and highlighted a few things, but when I tried to add text it wouldn't let me.  I discovered the "View Options" tab in the upper right corner, and in the drop-down menu I selected "Allow Typing" because I wanted to edit the document as I read it.  I continued to edit the document for two hours, clicking Save in the upper left corner frequently.  When I exited Full Screen Reading mode after saving one last time, I returned to the original view mode, clicked save, and closed the document.  Upon reopening the document moments later, none of the changes I saved were there.  What happened, and why do you offer the "Allow Typing" option if it ultimately doesn't save the work???  What did I do wrong so I never do that again?

Either Click on the Print Layout button at the bottom right of the Window

Or, if you click on the View tab and select Edit Document, it will also put the document into Print Layout mode

Was the document attached to an e-mail message and you opened while it was attached to the message?  If so, see the article "Lost Changes to Outlook Attachments" on the following page of fellow MVP Graham Mayor's website:

I did not open the document as an email attachment. I am assuming the data is lost.  Even though I clicked "Save" in Full Screen Reading mode, and again after that view closed and I was in the document and clicked save again.  I was sharing my screen while (supposedly) editing this doc with someone watching online, and he saw me click save twice.  But the editing we did for two hours is nowhere to be found.  So, I'm not really trying to figure out how to get out of Full Screen Reading mode, I'm wondering where the saved doc went, and if it can be retrieved.  I've searched everywhere I can think of.

The question remains - Are edits saved while in Full Screen Reading mode?  In "View Options" in the upper right while in this mode, I selected "Allow Typing" and I was able to type in the document.

Is this what you mean by "Full Screen Reading Mode"

or were you in the "Read Mode" of Word On-Line?

Where had the document been saved before you opened it?
