I have seen a number of different posts regarding footnotes being eliminated from a Microsoft word document. In my case I have a large document with a lot of footnotes. I opened the document this morning and there a lot of footnotes that were missing. In some cases,the footnote number is present while the text is not there. In other cases there, is text there but no number or the footnote is gone in entirety. Its fairly random throughout the document and I'm pretty sure I did not delete them by mistake. I tried office repair but no luck. Any thoughts about what might have caused this to happen and what can be done to fix it.

Are you sure that you are looking at the document in Print Layout view?
Note that footnotes won't be visible in Web Layout or Draft views.
