2016 Office/ Word - Edit Chart function not working

Anonymous

I have Windows 10. Office 365. Each is current and updated.

I run McAvee and Windows defender.

Older Word documents, which I update the chart monthly no longer will allow me to edit data.

 - yes they are the current version of word and - yes i am a co-author.

New word documents created today allow me to insert a chart. But once inserted, will not allow me to edit the data.

I can choose to edit the data or edit in excel - but when I select either one - nothing happens.

I have no other windows open, so it is not hiding behind something.

I have to get this information updated for monthly reports and it is already the 5th. Please help me!

I appreciate the reply Doug, but this doesn't apply to my issue.

First of all  I completely uninstalled all of McAvee and it still didn't fix the issue to allow me to edit the chart data.  As well, the WebAdvisor has been updated to the "fixed" state since Dec 18th.

I don't get any error messages, it just doesn't display the data for me to edit. I didn't embed an excel file - I just created a chart in Word.

So while that fix may apply to those having those specific issues - it doesn't apply to this particular issue.

Still need help with this issue please.

    Hi Nporter,

To help us further clarify the scenario, please provide some more information:

    1. Since the issue may due to WebAdvisor, I’d like to ask what’s the version of your WebAdvisor.
    2. Record a video of the issue step by step to show how you operate and share the video with us via private message.
    3. Does the issue occur to one type of chart or all charts? Have you tried insert other charts?

    Regards,

    Joshua

The issue has been fixed by McAfee. As long as you're using a version of WebAdvisor that's 4.0.7.148 or later, you won't see the error. It's described in more detail in this thread in the McAfee Community: https://community.mcafee.com/message/473194

    Hi Nporter,

Since the issue may be caused by McAvee, we suggest you uninstall McAvee and try again to see if the issue happens again. For more information, please refer to Fixes or workarounds for recent issues in Word for Windows.

If the issue persists, to help us clarify the scenario, please provide some more information:

    1. Since Office has different update channels, we’d like to know which channel you are setting to. Please go to Word > File > Account and share a screenshot of this page with us.
    2. Where are these files stored? Does the issue occur to local files?
    3. Does the issue occur to other users in your tenant?
    4. What had you done before the issue began? (e.g. update Office or update OS)

    Regards,

    Joshua

    Hi Joshua,

I uninstalled McAvee, restarted the laptop and the problem still exists.

Word still will not edit chart data.  I then turned off Defender as well and that did not alleviate the issue either.

I went to the Fixes or workarounds link that you sent and they suggested, as you did, to uninstall McAvee - I didn't find any other options for this issue and this clearly didn't fix or workaround my issue.

    In answer to your inquiries:

    1. Information from Word Account page:

    Version 1705 (Build 8201.2213 Click-to-Run)

    Deferred Channel

    1. Files were stored on laptop hard drive locally and also one from external hard drive.  Even newly created local documents with charts do not work.
    2. There are not any other users in my tenant that uses Word.

    4.  I purchased this laptop on or about Dec 18th 2017 - this was the first time that I have tried to update the chart data since purchase. I tried to remove the latest Windows update, but the uninstall option does not come up as an option.
