One Note Notebook and all quick notes are missing

I had important information saved in a notebook and normally when I open one note they are all there and I can either add to existing ones or create a new one.  They are all gone.  Are they stored on the local hard drive somewhere that I can find and open them to retrieve the data that was there?  Desperate, I know I should not have relied solely upon this program but in a quick hurry during a phone call it is very handy.  Now it is all gone.  When I try to sync it is unable to do it, when I got to one note online and log in the only notebook there is the one I just created not any of my old ones.  Help.  Please tell me where to find the files on my drive so that I can get the data from them.

For us to better isolate your concern, we would like to know the following information:

    • What is the exact error codes or messages that you get when you try to launch your OneNote app?
    • Have you installed any Office product on your device?
    • Have you entered a Microsoft account to connect to OneDrive?

Based on your description, the application that you are using is the OneNote store app. The notes that you have created on your OneNote are saved on your OneDrive storage if you have entered your Microsoft account. We would suggest that you try to launch OneNote desktop app by pressing Windows key, type OneNote in the Search field and then select the one having OneNote Desktop app .

Do come back with the required information and let us know the result for us to further assist you.

    Hi,

The notes on your OneDrive will automatically save on OneDrive. You can check this link for more information to search for any backups that you might have on your local Drive or OneDrive storage.

Don’t hesitate to update this thread if you have further questions.

I do not see any option at all when I load my desktop OneNote.  It initially says "we could not open this section".  I am trying to put a screen shot here but it will not let me.  I am not most computer savvy person so even replies are not reaching me except a message saying that I have one but it will not take me to it.  Once it is open and says could not open this section my only option above are Home, Insert, Draw, or View and a left arrow that takes me to recent notes and notebooks and it is not there.  Only the new one I made by experimenting trying to find the old one.   Having tried that before all it did was create a new notebook which is the one that is showing up on onedrive.  Before when I would open Onedrive on my laptop the notebook was just "there" and I could add to pages existing or add new pages.  Now it is just gone and since MS makes it impossible to find anything on the local hard drive I do not even know where these notebook files are on the hard drive to try to go and find them.
