Copy and Paste formatting does not work

As of 16.9, running on MacOS 10.13.2 and 10.13.3, Cmd + Shift + V does not paste formatting.

Previously, Cmd + C would copy cell contents and those could be pasted with either Cmd + V for all contents or Cmd + Shift + V for only formatting.

This was incredibly useful. Any idea why it's suddenly broken or how to restore?

Much appreciated.

    Hi All,

I would like to summarize the symptom here:

    Description

Users cannot use Cmd+Shift+V to paste the formats in Excel 2016 for Mac of Version 16.9.

    Environment

    Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.2 & 10.13.3

    Excel 2016 for Mac of Version 16.9 & 16.10

    More information

This issue will be fixed in next version. Please wait for the release later.

    Workaround

    1. Copy and right click the cell, choose Paste Special.
    2. Select Formats, then click OK.

    Regards,

    Yoga

    Hi Onewil,

Currently you can use the previous version of Office as a workaround.

Please refer to this link to How to go back to Office 2016 for Mac 15.xx versions from 16.xx.

About the issue, we do notice this behavior, and will spend some time to do more tests. We will post back as soon as possible.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    Regards,

    Rosen

    Hi Bob,

Thanks for responding. Strangely, I've found your post from May 2016 documenting that it does work.

Also, here's the Mac Office shortcut page documenting this shortcut.

Thanks for the help. As noted, reverting to the 15.xx builds restores this shortcut with no other work required. I'll wait for an update to the 16.xx branch to resolve.

    Wil

    Hi Rosen,

Thanks very much for the response. I have reverted to the 15.xx build, and the shortcut works again. I will hold off on updating Excel until this is resolved.

    Appreciate your support.

    Wil

"As of 16.9" compared to what? AFAICT that combination never has been assigned to Paste Format in Mac Excel... in Word, yes, but not in Excel. If you are comparing to Excel 2011 perhaps a custom keyboard shortcut had been created to assign it to the Formatting command, but even in that release it is not assigned as a built-in keyboard shortcut.

In excel 2008 Shift+Command+V was assigned to Paste from Scrapbook.

As of Excel 2011 that combination is unassigned as it is in Excel 2016.
