Hi There,

Need help on this one.

We are planning to do a in-place upgrade from our current 2012 Windows Server to Server 2016, the current 2012 server is only running File Sharing. Nothing else!

Due to the complex File Share NTFS permission, we do not really want to RobCopy the whole thing to a new Server box. So, what would be potential risks if we upgrade from server 2012 to 2016 in-place? We will have SNAPSHOT of the whole server on VMware host.

Thanks a lot,
ML

    Hi,
I did some research and found this:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/upgrade/upgrade-2012-to-2016
Based on my understanding, there could be errors when you install the original OS,thus, to do an in-place upgrade,I would suggest that you make backups for your machine in case of unexpected errors. Apart from that,it should be fine.

    Thanks for your understanding.
    Best Regards,
    Danny
