Partial Install?

Is it possible to only install part of the Office programs onto a computer?  Or, install the whole thing and then delete some?

I'm asking because we have a couple of laptops.  On one, I would only use Word.  On another, I would only use Excel. I would like to just install these programs onto the laptops, and avoid using up memory with the other programs.

Does anyone know how I can do this?

How easy it is to do depends entirely on the version of Office you have.

Office 365 or 2016 makes it a PITA. It can be done but requires a work around using a special tool

    Office 2013 may allow it.

Office 2010 and earlier definitely allow you. When you start the install, select the "customize" option.

For 2016 you can use the Office Deployment Toolkit. You have to edit the "XML" to customize the installation

Note: installing even just one application is the same as installing the whole suite in terms of the installation count.  You cannot "split" an installation count by putting one application on one computer and a different application on another computer.

    Hi Laura,

Installing Office with chosen application is possible. This usually being called custom installation. During the process of installation, you'll be having an option to choose the Office applications (e.g. Word only) you wanted to install.

Let us know if you have any questions and/or clarifications.
