Error: OneNote couldn't setup your first notebook

Hello,

I've used EverNote for my personal life for years, and am looking to switch over to OneNote after having great experiences with it in my workplace. Everything about it suits my note-taking needs perfectly.

Except the iPhone app. I *must* be able to access this app for remote note-taking, or it's a dealbreaker, period.

After I click "Get Started" and fill in my login credentials, I receive the below message:

OneNote Couldn't Setup Your First Notebook

Sign in with a Microsoft account or the account assigned to you by your work or school.

Troubleshooting I've tried:

  • Reinstalled app multiple times over a 2-day period throughout various troubleshooting steps.
  • Restarted phone. (I have an iPhone 6S)
  • Shut down phone entirely.
  • Signed out of my phone's Skype and Outlook apps, because they use the same Microsoft account (just fine, no issues.), in case there is a sign-in conflict somehow.
  • Tried to sign in using my Skype alias, rather than the email associated with the Microsoft account.
  • Waited overnight in case there was a server/cache issue, restarted phone, reinstalled app, tried login again. Still no go.

I can log in to the OneNote.com site (to manage my existing notebook), as well as the OneDrive and other Microsoft account sites. So it can't be an issue with the Microsoft account. (Note: this is a personal Microsoft account, not a work/school Office 365 account.)

I've searched the internet for any guidance, but none of the options worked for me. Usually it was just "reinstall the app" or "restart your phone."

Thoughts? Tips? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Tara53, I was able to fix this problem by going to setting then going to onenote then going to the reset option then enabling delete all notebooks and delete login credentials. After that just remove onenote from history then click on the app insert your credentials and it should be working.

I'm having the exact same issue. Just get the runaround from support. No one can provide any help on this issue. It's not an isolated event. There's definitely a bug.

    Hi Tara,

We've tried to replicate the issue on our end, but unfortunately we're not successful. There is a possibility that this is an isolated issue and based on the information that you've provided, it appears to be that you've already performed the basic troubleshooting that we could have suggested. We suggest contacting directly our Answer desk to assist you further with your concern.
