Data validation moving when adding rows

Hi All,

I have set up a spreadsheet with a few tabs.

One is a list of companies and the other is an entry form.

In the entry form you can either add a new project or new company.

New Project - uses a data validation where you can select the company.

New Company - add to a list in which the data validation uses.

The issue I have is whenever I add a new company the data validation area moves down as well. I have used $ and still moves, I have also highlighted the rows and names the area and added this to the data validation but still moves down when I add a row.

Is there anything else I can do to stop it from moving?

thanks in advance

Hi Attycuz,

To know more clearly about the issue, I hope you can post screenshots about the example worksheet so we can know how the sheet looks like and how the issue looks like.

Please check my steps below and correct me if I have any misunderstanding:

  1. Create two columns, column A named “New Project”, column B named “New company”.
  2. Select whole column A > Data > Data Validation > Data Validation > Settings > Validation criteria > Allow > select “list”
  3. Click in “Source” box > select the whole column B (named “New Company”)
  4. Then you can select company in “New Project” column

Please tell me in which step do you have the issue. If I have any misunderstanding, please describe more with screenshots.

Thanks,

Rena

    Hi Rena,

Thank you for your response and apologies for the late reply.

Your answer was perfect, I was being silly and was just highlighting the fields I wanted, didnt think about highlighting the whole column.

    Works like a charm

    Thank you
