Hi there. My excel spreadsheet says: "Autosave turned off. This workbook contains features that prevent it from using AutoSave. Please save your workbook manually". I like the autosave feature but I can't find out what prevents it. Any idea? (I don't have external links). Thanks for your help!

Hi everybody

Thanks for your responses!

I found out what prevented the Autosave, it was a graph from an 3rd party graphing software that I pasted into the spreadsheet, this prevented the autosave function. Once I pasted it as a picture, autosave worked again. Something to consider when you import or paste things form another software...

The article Teylyn posted is a great place to start to understand why AutoSave may be disabled and how it works in general. We also recently had an issue that disabled AutoSave even when it should have been enabled. You can learn more about that in this article. In general, the best way to know why AutoSave is disabled is to hover over the toggle and read the reason that the popup tooltip identifies.

Thanks,

    • Open Excel
    • Go to File->Options
    • Under Save option, check the 'Save AutoRecovery information in every' option

    Hello,

    according to the documentation, Autosave will be disabled when the file is in the old file format .xls.

    In my test, the password protection did not affect it. I tried sheet protection, workbook open and workbook modify, and AutoSave still works fine for me.
