Can't create OneNote Class Notebook

I'm a teacher and my school has an Office 365 account. I'm interested in trying out the Class Notebooks with OneNote as my students are all required to purchase the same tablet, but whenever I try to "Create a class notebook" from this website (https://www.onenote.com/classnotebook) I can barely type the name of the class before the web page re-directs me back to the main menu.

I've tried on both Chrome and Firefox, and am having the same issue. I also downloaded the Class Notebook add-on, but when creating a new class from the app it just pops open a browser and I run into the same issue.

Is there something I'm missing regarding creating a Class Notebook?

    Hi Jon,

It seems no need to run clean boot, as the Home computer which has no third-parties also has the same issue with your account.

If other teachers have no issue, they can create the class notebook for you. I know this is not a solution. If they can, this is just a workaround before the issue is fixed. We will also help you to resolve the issue with your account.

The tenant information includes some questions such as the affected user account, the company domain, your global admin’s account and so on. We need these information to verify the company information and user information. These information also can be helpful for investigation when the issue is only happening to the specific tenant or user account. I have sent you via the private message, you can reply when you are convenient.

The issue seems not like an access permission issue such as your school block your access to the app. As such block settings normally have error notification to let you know that.

    Thanks,

    Rena

    Hi Rena,

Our school is on break and I am getting ready for a business trip leaving tomorrow, so I haven't been able to try all of your suggestions.

    1. If all other teachers meet the same issue?

I can try to talk another teacher into giving me some of their time to see if they have the same issue on their accounts. It will have to be in a couple weeks when we return from break.

    1. If the issue happens to the whole tenant (all accounts), to see if the issue is affected by any third-party programs installed by your organization, please run Windows clean boot to try to create the notebook to see the result.

Would clean boot affect my Microsoft account? I tried the same process from my home computer and on my home network, and I got the same error. I can try this clean boot when I return from my business trip if you think it may make a difference.

    1. If the issue only happens to your account, at least, the workaround can be: let another teacher create the class notebook for you first, add you to the teacher list.

I will try and see if another teacher can get it to work on his/her account. I'm the first in the department to try this out, so we'll see what happens to others. Also, this is not an ideal solution as I don't want to have to do that for every class that I make.

    1. Whatever it happens only to your account all the whole tenant, to move forward to help you, please provide us your tenant information. Please also reply it via private message to protect your privacy.

I'm not sure what you mean by "tenant" information. Can you clarify?

    1. When did the issue happen? Was there anything changed before that?

The issue happened as soon as I tried to create a class notebook. I've used OneNote without issue until this point.

In addition to the attempts I mentioned before, I also just tried the process through Microsoft Edge on my home computer, where I have no extensions installed, and I got the same result. Could there be something my school is restricting from their end that makes it so it's not possible for me to create a class notebook?

    Thanks,

    Jon

    Hi Brooks,

I haven't heard from you for a few days, do you still have the issue? If so, please provide us the information above so we can help you.

    Thanks,

    Hi Brooks,

Thanks for your video via private message. It looks really weird, it seems you don’t do anything on the page, no clicking or moving the mouse, then the page will redirect automatically.

As you have told me that even if you change a new computer, the issue persists. I am thinking if the issue only affects your account or your whole tenant. Please provide me the information below:

    1. If all other teachers meet the same issue?
    2. If the issue happens to the whole tenant (all accounts), to see if the issue is affected by any third-party programs installed by your organization, please run Windows clean boot to try to create the notebook to see the result.
    3. If the issue only happens to your account, at least, the workaround can be: let another teacher create the class notebook for you first, add you to the teacher list.
    4. Whatever it happens only to your account all the whole tenant, to move forward to help you, please provide us your tenant information. Please also reply it via private message to protect your privacy.
    5. When did the issue happen? Was there anything changed before that?

    Thanks,

    Rena

    Hi Brooks,

From your description, when you want to create a new class notebook, it will redirect you back to the main menu.

I tried it by my side with different browsers but can’t reproduce the same issue. Your steps to create the class notebook are correct.

I would first suggest you open the browser in private or incognito window to see the result. If the issue persists, please provide us the information below for more investigation:

    1. To check if the issue only happens to specific teachers, please check if other teachers have the same issue.
    2. To check if the issue only happens to this computer, please try to let another teacher who has no issue to create a new class notebook on your computer to see the result.
    3. The reproduce video about the issue. To protect your privacy, I have sent you a private message to collect them. Please access it via this link.

    Thanks,

    Rena
