Excel sheet automatically adds black borders & lines every time I edit/write on a column

Out of nowhere, my Excel started adding black lines and broders/frames whenever I edit a column.

It doesn't make any sense because it doesn't add the border or line around the column I edit only, it adds it to the entire row.

  • I type something on a column, ie "test" (see 1st screenshot)
  • I click on a different column and the row where my "test" column gets black lines (see 2nd screenshot)
  • I try choosing "no borders" to delete the borders/lines (see 3rd screenshot)
  • I click on a different column and the "test column" gets lines on right and left side in addition to the entire row! (see 4th screenshot)

I have deleted rules and tried everything that comes to my mind.

There must be a very easy trick that I am overlooking. Appreciate your help!

    Hi Cankizz,

There are several reasons that we need to consider as to why a column is being highlighted in black after entering an information on a cell. In some cases, this could be due to a corrupted file or update which affects the Excel functionality. Have you installed the latest Office updates on your computer? If so, we recommend that you repair your Excel app to scan and repair any corrupted files. You may refer to this link for the steps.

Let us know if that works for you.

    Hi Ariel,

    It worked!

Thank you for your quick reply and on-point solution.

Whatever was happening, "repair" must have solved the issue.
