Inserting PDF into Excel 2016 for Mac

I'm having difficulties embedding a PDF or other file type into Excel. I'm running Excel for Mac version 16.10.

When I select the cell and click on Insert Object, the only file types that are supported are Word files. when I go to From File... I can see the PDF but when I try to insert, I get an error.

See attached for the screen shots.

I assume there is a setting that limits or allows what file types can be attached; let me know if so and how I can modify, thanks.

OLE (Object Linking & Embedding) isis severely limited and almost no existent in Office Mac Truth is it been this way for years Back in the day when Mac used C, C++, and Objective-C, OLE work much better. You can insert PDF as a Picture, but it's not editable and limited the first page only. Not sure if OpenOffice types such as Open Office, LibreOffice I am not sure they work any better.

Is Microsoft looking into fixing this issue or do they just want MAC users to use a different product?
