Every time i open my computer multiple word documents open automatically. For every new startup more and more documents open. It started out with just two and now it opens seven.

Please help me prevent word from opening all these documents upon computer startup. I have windows 10 and office 2016.

I found that creating a new profile is was required to solve this issue.  MS Office has a "Repair" function, which is accessed on Windows 10 by going to All Settings --> Apps, and Under "Apps & Features, find "Microsoft Office 365

  • en-us", click on it Once and it will give you two options, "Modify" or "Uninstall", select "Modify".  From there click "Yes" to allow changes to your device, assuming you have the privileges to do so or get your administrator to assist with this process.  Then, an Office window will appear asking if you want to do a "Quick Repair" or "Online Repair".  I chose "Quick Repair" and found success, and would suggest that you do this first, restart your computer to see if it works.  If not, then do the "Online Repair".  If that doesn't work, then create a new profile as a last resort.

Try the workaround that involves creating a new user profile.

Microsoft is aware of the bug, I believe. No time frame for a fix is known.

I have the same issue, and I have automatic updates turned on.  I believe an update was installed on 12/3 or 12/4/2017 and the next time I restarted my computer, I noticed the issue.  Suggesting that Microsoft look at the issue.  I have scanned my computer for viruses and any other known issues before coming to the forum.

I believe this has been confirmed as a bug in Word. First see if updating Office via File | Account | Update Options | Update Now makes a difference.

If it doesn't, you can try creating an additional user profile in Windows. People have reported that going back to the original user profile works around the problem.
