Cursor misalignment in Excel on Mac

I've noticed this issue a lot in recent weeks because I use Excel constantly.

When you click where the cursor is, is actually select something about a 1/2 cell away. So even though the cursor is directly above a cell, it selects the one above it. It's extremely annoying since I'm adding, inserting, moving and selecting blocks of lines and cells. I have to make sure to position your cursor slightly above the one you need to modify. Because of this, I've accidentally selected and moved/modified the wrong things.

After some research, I saw that I'm not the only one. I haven't seen any recent posts here though, not since 2016. So can someone tell me what the fix is for this? Or is it just a bug with the latest version?

I'm on a Mac, and under the menu it shows Microsoft 2016, Version 15.33

Updated Microsoft. Excel is updated to 15.34 and alas, the cursor is still off by a cell/row. I'm adjusting to having the cursor slightly below the cell or row I need to select, and it still works as long as I know to position the cursor askew.

Thank you, Jiaxing. I will submit a ticket to IT for that update. All computers were updated in the last few days, so this must be very new.

I spoke with coworkers today, and I'm not the only one having this issues. Others, both on work machines and personal machines, have this issue.

Today (Monday 5/22) I have not had any issues yet. Perhaps it has caught up with the updates?

I cannot confirm if the issue happened prior. IT made some university wide updates recently, but I didn't really start to use Excel until the past 3 weeks when we got a huge data dump for a project I'm working on.

    1. Does the issue happen to all Excel files or some specific one?

Yes, it happens to all files so far.

    2. Perform a "clean startup" to determine whether background programs are interfering with Office for Mac.

    Will inform IT.

    1. Check if the issue happens to a different user profile on your Mac.

Yes, this happens to other users logged in with other AD log-ins. And other users on other machines also experience this.

    1. Provide the version of your Mac OS.
