One Note content disappeared after export

Hello,

I have a Onenote file. It had many tabs and lots of information. I exported it to my thumb drive under a new name. The file with the new name is not there, but there is no content in it. I tried to go back to the original onenote file and all the content is gone there, too.

I tried going into options and checking the backup folders, and the information is not there either.

Someone explain to me where the content went. How do I get it back. There is hours of work in the notebook.

Thank you.

We appreciate your response. Based on the details that you've shared, we'd like to check the sync settings that's currently active in the OneNote application. To check this, you can perform the steps posted under the Turn automatic notebook synchronization back on section of this link.

Note: The Sync automatically whenever there are changes option is recommended to allow the OneNote application to automatically save new inputs in a notebook. We'd recommend using this option on the devices where you're using OneNote.

We look forward to an update on your concern.

    Hi,

Thank you for your quick reply to my questions.

I just checked the back-up copies and found that earlier backed up versions of the pages I wanted are there sans information I added one week later. the problem is that when I worked on this notebook a second time (one week later) I added a bunch of information that apparently did not save anywhere. I thought I had transferred it to my work computer, but it was not there. When I checked at home for the back-up, I did find all of the work. Then when I moved the work I found, it disappeared. It is not in the back-up. No, I have not tried to find it in the online version as far as I know.

Usually I can just work away on the notebooks and everything is saved and backed up and opens automatically.

    Hi,

OneNote automatically saves your notes even while users still work on it. Files are stored locally on your computer's hard drive and can be affected by corruptions or crashes. To better understand your concern, we'd like to know the following:

    • If you've created backups for your notebooks.
    • If you've already checked for the specified notebook in the web version of OneNote.

In the meantime, we'd recommend checking this link to know more about the process of restoring notes from a backup.

We look forward to your response.
