HELP - important files for University.  Does anyone know how to retrieve odd files that won't open anymore?  When I click to open them it asks for a text encoding.  No idea what this is.

Thanks in advance

Lauren

Sounds like the document may be corrupt.

If the document is not too large to attach to an email message, send me a copy of it that way, referencing this thread in the covering email message.

Alternatively, upload a copy of the document to the following folder of my OneDrive

and send me an email to the address shown in my signature and I will see if I can recover your document.

    Hi Lauren,

We need to clarify some information for us to better understand you concern about the files you cannot open. Kindly answer these questions:

    • When did you notice that you cannot open the files you need using Word?
    • Were there any changes made on your computer or on your files before encountering the issue?
    • What is the file type of the files you're attempting to open? You will see the file type of your documents by right-clicking it and choose Properties.
    • What is the error message that you're receiving when opening your files?
    • Usually, the document that you can open using Word has the Word icon. Can you please tell us is the icon that you can see on the files that you're opening?

Thank you for your offer. I'm a little reluctant to send these documents over as they are related to my Uni work and some of the material may be sensitive.  Could you possible give step-by-step instruction that I could follow?

    Thanks

    Lauren
