Excel 2016 Adding borders automatically

Recently Excel starting adding borders around new cells for myself and multiple other users. Is this currently a known issue?

I just found that if I create a cell and a border gets put around it, if I click into another cell the border doesn't go away. If I click out of Excel into another program and click back into Excel, the border is gone.

Currently running Excel 2016 MSO (16.0.4549.1000) 32-bit

Windows 10

The latest patches that were installed are as follows:

Security Update for Microsoft Office 2016 (KB3213551) 32-Bit Edition

Security Update for Microsoft Office 2016 (KB3203474) 32-Bit Edition

Security Update for Microsoft Office 2016 (KB4011038) 32-Bit Edition

Security Update for Microsoft Office 2016 (KB4011126) 32-Bit Edition

    @Anna Bon

I have several people in our organization that have "complained" of this same issue. I tried the repair to no avail.

    Hi Nathan,

For us to verify if this is an issue with the latest patch applied, we need to confirm some information. Please answer the following:

    • Did the issue happen right after the latest patch was installed?
    • Does it happen on a different Excel file?

Meanwhile, we suggest that you repair your Office application to refresh it. Here's how:

    1. Right-click the Start button (lower-left corner), and select Programs and Features on the pop-up menu.
    2. Right-click the Microsoft Office product you want to repair, and select Change. You'll repair the entire Office suite even if it's just a particular application you want to repair such as Word or Excel. If you have a standalone app, then you can search for the application by name.
    3. From the "How would you like to repair your Office Programs" screen, select Online Repair to make sure everything gets fixed, and then select Repair. The Quick Repair option is also available, which runs faster but only detects and then replaces corrupted files.
    4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete.

Once done, please check if you will still encounter the same issue.

Please reply with the required information and the result to help you further.

    Thank you.
