Visio Standard 2016 Issues with Embedded Excel Object

Whenever I insert an excel object into a visio file (.vsdx), after I close, and then  reopen the file, I get the message "Visio cannot edit the unknown object." Strangely, if I create the drawing using the older format (.vsd) I most of the time do not have the issue, although occasionally it will also happen with that format as well.

I am using Visio Standard 2016 with an Office 365 account. I cannot seem to find much in the way of answers anywhere online. There are a few topics opened, but none with a solution. Any help would be much appreciated.

There seems to be an issue inserting screen shots-- here is the info:

    Microsoft Visio 2016 MSO (16.0.8326.2096) 32-bit

    Product ID: 00341-80904-39163-AA992

I inserted the excel object through Insert-->Object-->Microsoft Excel Worksheet

I have "create new" selected and Display as icon de-selected. The file is not linked.

I can edit the object initially. I then save and close the document, and reopen. After I reopen it and then try to edit that object by double-clicking is when I get that message.

    Hi,

What's your detailed Excel application version? And how did you insert the Excel object? Did you linked to the source Excel file?

Please click File > Account > About Visio and About Excel to collect the detailed version number. Provide detailed steps to reproduce the issue so that we can do further testing and troubleshooting on it.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    Best Regards,

    Winnie Liang
