Hi Lenglin
Software add-ins may cause Excel 2016 app not to prompt saving on exit. To isolate the issue, try opening Excel in safe mode.
- Find the shortcut icon for Excel application on the Taskbar.
- Press and hold the CTRL key and double-click the application shortcut
- Click Yes when a window appears asking if you want to start the application in Safe Mode.
Once you start Excel in safe mode, you’ll see Safe mode on the title, as shown below:
Make some changes in workbook, check if you get the save prompt when exiting the workbook.
Note*: To stop Office Safe Mode, exit and restart your Office application. It will start in normal mode unless there's a problem opening the application.*
Additionally, try disabling the add-ins for the application and check the result:
- In the Excel application create a new workbook, click File > Options > Add-Ins.
- At the bottom of the dialog box, change the Manage dropdown to COM add-ins, and select Go.
- Clear the checkbox for any enabled COM add-ins. select OK.
If the issue persists, please provide the following information:
- Please provide the screenshot of Office 2016 Product Information. To get this screenshot, open OneNote 2016 on your system, click File>Account, capture the screenshot of all the information mentioned under Product Information.
- Create a new workbook, check if same thing happens.
- Check your VBA modules (regular and workbook) to see if any VBA Close event is changing this behavior.
- Is any other Office application not giving the prompt when closing?
Thanks,
Neha
