Hi

I would just like to know if it is possible to retrieve an unsaved document with a dell computer automatically shutting down every 30 minutes. I have lost my work and the auto save function was not enabled for the word document?

Try following (You need to be lucky) -

    1. Open Word
    2. File > Info > Manage versions > Recover unsaved documents
    3. File > Options > Save > Note the location of Autorecover file location > Go to this location and see if your file is there.
    4. If your backup option was also on, your file gets saved as .wbk..Search for all .wbk files on your c: drive between a certain date range
    5. Also search for all *.tmp files between a certain date range. If you find a possible file, rename the extension to .docx or .doc.
    6. Also look for files starting with ~ between a certain date range.

    Hi Anthea,

On the File menu, click Open, and then click Recent Documents

Scroll to the end of all recent documents, and then click Recover Unsaved Documents

If you find the Word document that you are looking for, double-click it to open it

    Save it immediately

If auto-save wasn't enabled and you didn't manually save the doc during the course of its creation, there would be nothing to recover. If there was, would negate the whole purpose of auto-save
