i am using Onenote from onedrive and my PC. I started to get password required error and could not find anywhere to enter a password. I closed the notebooks on my PC and now I can't reopen them. They open with a blank new section. The notebboks are available by going to onedrive and opening them on the web. How can I get them to open again in the onenote application on my PC.

To further assist you regarding your concern, since you’ve done removing the generic credentials on your device, we suggest that you download and run the Office Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT) on your PC. This tool will scan the Office program for any possible cause of the issue and it will provide you a link to resolve it. To do this, you may follow the steps provided in this article about Office Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT) information. Once you’re on the page, you may expand the options under the More Information section, and then complete the process. After using the OffCAT tool, you may check if the issue persists.

Keep us updated about your concern for additional assistance.

I was not making any changes.

I have performed the repair and I still have the issue. I have removed all generic credentials and have teied pretty much all solutions on the web including turning off advanced verification.

This is the error I am receiving.

"We need the password to sync this notebook. (Error code: 0x803D0005) There was an error communicating with the endpoint at 'https://docs.live.net/skydocsservice.svc'.; The server returned HTTP status code '401 (0x191)' with text 'Unauthorized'.; The requested resource requires user authentication.; The operation identifier is not valid."

All my notebooks are available on onedrive but once I closed them on my PC I am no longer able to open or sync without getting the above error.

    Hi Shelby,

The issue that you’ve encountered regarding the OneNote application on your Windows 10 computer may be caused by some files or components that are broken or missing on the system. To sort out your concern, we’d like to know the following information:

    • Were there any changes that happened prior to the issue?
    • If there's an error message, can you provide us a screenshot?

Additionally, we suggest that you perform the Repair option from the Control Panel for an Office application. This process will scan and correct any possible cause of the issue. To do this, you may follow the steps provided on this link. Once you’re on the page, you may proceed with the steps under the Repair Office from the Control Panel section, and then complete the process. After completing the steps, you may check if you’re able to access your notebooks.

We’re looking forward to your response.
