Hi,
I am using the corporate version of Office 2016 from the University of Toronto on my MacBook Pro. I am getting the following error message when I try to insert a column chart in a word file: This template can't be applied. It's either damaged or won't work for the selected chart. Please try recreating it.
I was able to insert charts and smart graphics in the document without any problems only a couple of days ago.
Thank you for your help,
Jean-Philippe

Hi Jean,
Thanks for the update.
In some cases, some add-ins or software may be interfering with Office programs after we install updates. To check if this is the case, please try performing a clean startup (safe mode) to your computer and then start Word to see if you can insert 2D column chart.

If it exhibits same behavior, since I can add 2D column chart on my side, it should not be related to Word program itself. To check if it is related to Office installation/updating, please try completely uninstalling Office by the steps in this article. Then reinstall Office to see the result (you may need to update Word manually if it is not 16.9.1 after installing).

Joanne

Thanks - I haven't applied 16.9.1 as yet, but have noticed that 16.9 is a bit flaky... It seems to work OK if Excel is running when you attempt to insert the Chart. If Excel isn't running Word will display either that message or another & the Chart won't be inserted.
See if it helps to launch Excel, then switch back to Word to insert the Chart.
BTW: Just for clarification, iOS is the name of Apple's operating system for their mobile devices [iPad, iPhone, etc.]. The operating system for Mac computers is referred to either as OS X or macOS :-)
Version: 16.9.1 (180125)
Product ID: 0***5-010-00***1
Liscence: Office 365 Subscription
iOS version: 10.11.6
I am trying to insert a 2D column chart (create a new chart).
Thank you,
J-O

Please go to Word> About Microsoft Word in the main menu & reply with the Version & License information shown there. Also, which version of macOS are you running on your Mac and specifically which style of Column Chart?
