SharePoint 365 Document Set Group by Document Type

I have a document set in SharePoint Online/365 and a handful of custom content types. I want to be able to group the items on the home page of the document set by document type. However, there is no option under the homepage view to be able to do this and document type is not an option if I create a custom view. Can anyone advise how to achieve this?

    Hi Intrepid,

Based on your requirement, you can add a custom choice column named content type in the site library where the document set is and create a view grouping files by the column first. Then use the way I mentioned above to apply the view to the document set home page.

    Thanks,

    Cliff

    Hi Intrepid,

You can achieve the requirement via the following steps.

    1. Create a document set and upload some files of different types.
    2. Click Library>Library Settings>Create view>Standard View>find Group By>Select Type (icon linked to document) in First group by the column.
    3. After creating the new view, navigate to the site library>Library Settings>select the document set content type in Content Types>Document Set settings>select the new view in Select View.

    Thanks,

    Cliff

Thanks Cliff. I had hoped that it would group the documents by their custom document type rather than by their actual file type. i.e. if I have 2 custom types (performance review and supporting information), both of which are actually Word documents, then it should group by the custom type. Is that possible, or am I going to have to add some custom metadata (if so, how do I access the custom type property)?
