SharePoint Attachments

Hello,

Using SharePoint online and a build of local installed Office that is current within a month or two

User 1 creates a file and saves it to SharePoint team site

User 2 creates new email and navigates to site documents and selects User 1's file for attachment.  The attachment object has the cloud image, so it is sending a link rather than the actual attachment.  This activity by User 1 also creates the link rather than full attachment.

User 3 creates new email, selects the same document, and it doesn't attach as a link.  It is the full document.

I've tested with the original file that revealed the issue - it attaches at a link for me.

I created a new file and this user has same issue

I had user 1 create a new file.  It works for the two of us, but not user 3

IF user 3 opens the file, the closes it, then goes through the email attachment steps, then the file will show as a link rather than full attachment

I had her reboot - same issue.

I tried this with both Word and Excel test files, same result

Thanks in advance

    Hi,

    1.  when I originally started working on this issue the user opened the file in Word.  I just ran through the steps and opened each of my test files; one on Word and one in Browser.  I then went through the attachment process and had the same negative result

    • no cloud in the attachment object/icon.  So, this behavior has changed slightly.
    1. going through the steps to browse PC and then navigating to the team site DOES work.  The attachment object has the cloud image
    2. I only have one library for this team site
    3. I added the user to one of our test sites and there was the same result

I had this user log into another PC for testing.  When I try to attach a file on the second PC I can't even get the "browse web locations" to open anything.  The "browse this pc" works and there are files listed as recent files

In my testing with a different PC I stumbled on to more issues.

When this user tries to attach a file in their OneDrive we have the same result... so, new email > Attach File > Browse Web Locations > OneDrive > select file .  As is the case with the Sites, the attachment object doesn't have the cloud icon.  This is the case on both PC's we've been working on for this user.

    Thank you

    Hi Bradley,

    Thanks for your updates.

Based on my test, If I perform the steps below to add attachment in a new email,

    New Email>Attach File>Browse Web Locations>Sites>Shared Documents

The email attachment should be like below:

Please help to confirm the information below:

1.Regarding "If the user actually opens the file, then goes through the attachment steps, then it shows with the cloud."

Please clarify how did the user open the file. Open the file in SharePoint online team site or sync the file in local PC and open it?

In SharePoint online, did the user Edit the file with Edit in Word or Edit in Browser?

2.Check if the attachment shows with the cloud if you perform the steps below:

    1)New Email>Attach File>Browse This PC

2)Copy the URL of the team site library, it should be like https://yourtenant.sharepoint.com/libraryname

Then paste the URL in file explorer and click Enter.

    3)Choose the file>Insert

4)Check if the attachment shows with cloud. Please let us know the result.

3.Does the issue happen to all document libraries or a specific document library in team site?

4.Does the issue happen to other site collections?

    Regards,

    Tina

Hello.  Sorry, the user was on holiday for a few days.

    1.  Yes, this is exactly how we are doing it.  New message > attach file > browse web locations > then select the proper location

    1. no, it is a normal attachment image.  See "attachment.jpg" for image.  If the user actually opens the file, then goes through the attachment steps, then it shows with the cloud.

    3.  we are all using the same build of Office 2016.  See "office.jpg"

    1. I tested this with a Word and Excel document.  The experience was the same.

huh, can't see how to attach files.  See pasted images below...

Please help to confirm the following information:

1.Regarding the email attachment steps, did you perform the steps below:

Open Outlook client>Click New Email under Home section>Choose Attach File in Include under Message>Locate to the file or choose Browse Web Locations and locate to team site Shared Documents

If it is not your situation, please provide detailed steps about your steps.

If not, please capture a related screenshot to describe yours.

3.Are you using Office 2016 or Office 2013? Please capture screenshots of Product Information via File>Office Account. (Please provide all 3 users' and yours)

4.Does the attachments show as a link with all Office programs files?

    Regards,

    Tina
