Hi,

I have switched from a Windows laptop to a Mac and now one of Excel files with Macros doesn´t work. After opening I get the following error

And when I click "ok" it shows the window with "unexpected error 485"

Could you please explain, what exactly goes wrong and how to fix it.

Thanks,

Ekaterina.

Can you copy and paste the code ina reply to this thread? Even though Microsoft has changed the macro code to work the same on both Windows and Mac, there may be some code that doesn't translate and need substitutions.

I don't know anything about Macros or even how to write them. I started out using Mac back when Microsoft  Macros could destroy Mac files, and was told at the time to turn off Macros. , So I never learned to use.

So what I said above I picked up from reading the post here over the years.  An excellent expert on the matter is xx (no relation). If you post the code, it's possible he can help you figure out code substitutions.

    Hi Cliff,

yes, the macro codes worked fine in Excel 2016 on Windows. We now have the Macs though and no access to old Windows laptops.

is there a chance to understand, which macros exactly are causing this behaviour - so that we could reprogram the code.

    thanks,

    Ekaterina

    Hi Ekaterina,

    Thanks for your updates.

As some macro codes working fine in Excel 2016 may not work in Excel 2016 for Mac, I’d like to confirm whether they worked before. If yes, when did the issue happen? If no, you may use them in Excel 2016 instead.

    Thanks,

    Cliff

    Hi Cliff,

many thanks for your prompt reply.

This happens also on the laptops from my colleagues´. they have the same version of Excel installed.

Please find the requested screenshot below.

Is it enough to investigate, or do you need any further information?

    thanks,

    Ekaterina

    Hi Ekaterina,

If you have another Mac with the same version of the Excel 2016 for Mac application installed, I suggest you test on it to see and let us know the result.

Meanwhile, I’d like to confirm whether the issue only happens with the specific macro codes and upload a full screenshot of the page showing the version information of the Excel 2016 for Mac application you are using. You can access the page via Excel>About Excel.

    Thanks,

    Cliff
