SSMS instalation failed

Question

Hi)
Could you please advise why I receive a fail message when installing SSMS?

Error message: "A certificate was explicitly revoked by its issuer ("0x800B010C)
This happens either with the newest version or with the previous ones.
I tried to run it as administrator, turn off the VPN - no results.

Please help)))

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

This issue is caused by badly signed packages in the SSMS installer, and is also related to the HelpViewer 2.3 component.
Please refer to this workaround from this similar thread which might help:

Using Certificate Manager I backed up and then completely emptied the following (Local Computer) physical stores: Trusted Root Certification Authorities (Registry), Trusted Root Certification Authorities (Third-Party) and Untrusted Certificates (Registry). I then installed all the certificates I found in the file (noted above) into the Trusted Root Certification Authorities (Registry). I then conducted an iterative process of running the SSMS-Setup-ENU installation. As each iteration failed I gathered more certificates from files causing authenticode issues. Eventually I was able to get a successful install. I then exported the Trusted Root Certification Authorities (Third-Party) as a Microsoft Serialized Certificate Store. I have posted this file online and shared it at the following link: https://app.box.com/s/zlxo6g58ntkc02yvtbq3o18k9tgcgenx.

Forward to release 18.9.2 (from the previously noted site). It also fails to install. I emptied the stores (noted above) and imported the Microsoft Serialized Certificate Store file I had exported in the successful 18.9.1 installation. I then re-ran the 18.9.2 installation package and the upgrade was successful. The SHA256 for this file is 03e567b7475ec2e2da237d70e9a833deabf52ca66d521f340a1ebc8fdea91170 (in case the download mysteriously changes as it did for the 18.9.1 release).
