Cannot 'Stop Inheriting Permissions' on document library

I have a document library with a significant amount of items in it (well over 5000).  I want to stop inheriting permissions on the library.  However, I run into an error when attempting to do so:  The attempted operation is prohibited because it exceeds the list view threshold enforced by the administrator.  Is there any way to get around this?  I've read about indexing on particular columns, but that doesn't seem to help in this situation.  I've also looked into PowerShell commands and CSOM.  Still, everything seems to do with lists and not libraries.  Can anyone assist with some resources that might help?

Hello,

I suppose you are talking about SharePoint online. If you have more that 5000 items, it means you are above the limit. There are no workarounds in SPO, as this is a shared place: For SharePoint Online, this limit can't be changed, and is in place 24 x 7 to allow users on shared tenants to always have good performance on queries. To work around the limit, we've outlined some actions you can do to keep your queries within the limit, reference: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/manage...

You will have to reduce the number of the items, by following some of the advises in the article.

Let me know if you have some questions or something is not clear.

Regards,

Manuela

    Unfortunately not.

You will need to provision a new site and then copy the data - manually or with a third-party migration tool.

Thank you for the information.  I believe I'll just create another site collection and go from there.  However, I was wondering if it is possible to change the 'type' of the site collection after it's been created.  The original site collection was created as a Team Site.  Can I change it to a Document Center template?
