Pictures will only save as 'png'

Just bought a new Dell laptop with Microsoft Office 2016 pre-installed. I am very frustrated that I simply want to save existing jpeg photos from an e-mail attachment (using gmail), in the Pictures folder in jpeg format, but the 'save as type' only gives me a png option. I have tried all browsers - edge, chrome and firefox.  All I want to do is save a photo!  Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

    Hi Linnell,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm afraid it doesn't work for me. The photo is showing as jpg on gmail, and when I use Microsoft Office 2013 I get a drop-down menu with a list of files of where to save and can then use the drop down menu to save as jpg.  I only get a png option on Office 2016 and it makes no difference when I type jpg after the file name (saving it also changes the file name to icon..... something entirely different to the original image). I seem to be able to save the picture as a jpeg in downloads, but that is then a real pain having to put each photo in the right folder. Thanks for your help anyway.

    Hi Norma,

I tested and when the photo is a Jpeg seems gmail creates a PNG if I save as and type in .jpg where the .png is it does save as a jpg just by changing the extension.

    Hope this helps

    Linnell

    Hello,

thanks for the suggestion, but I have cleared all temporary internet files and it makes no difference whatsoever.  Anything else I can try?   Seems to be a problem with Microsoft Office 2016 as I had no problem in doing the same thing on old laptop with Office 2013.
