OneNote Class Notebook - Collaboration Space missing

Hello,

in one of my teams' Class Notebook, the “_Collaboration Space” has disappeared, also from my (teacher's) notebook. I tried turning “” on and off and on again in class notebook settings. I tried repairing permissions. I tried creating a section with the name, then repairing permissions

again, didn't work. I looked in the recycle bin, nothing.

I am at a loss. Is there any way to repopulate the notebook with the default sections? Everything else seems to be working with this book.

The effect is the same in OneNote 2016 (16.0.11328), OneNote Online, and OneNote the App (16001.11231), and I don't see an option that helps me with my problem.

I don't remember when or how exactly the section disappeared, and my other class notebooks are fine.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

  Matthias.

Hi Matthias,

Thanks for writing back to us and sorry for delay response.

Creating a Class Notebook is easy way and it will be done in few steps, you can refer to this article: Create a Class Notebook in OneNote, to create it.

After creating a Class Notebook, you can distribute the pages from old Class Notebook to New Class Notebook by referring this article: Distribute Class Notebook page and sections.

Thanks,

Chitrahaas

    Dear Chitrahaas,

I'm afraid it'd be too much of a hassle creating a new book and transferring all the pages, including those of the students'. Since they have individual notes & solutions, I cannot simply “distribute” the old stuff.

As it is, I'll do without the collab section for this course. I cannot understand why you guys don't file a bug report and fix the underlying issue.

    Best regards,

      Matthias.

    Hi Matthias,

Thanks for writing back to us and providing the detail information.

As you had tried the all suggestions where it doesn’t help to recover the Collaboration Space folder. The simplest way is to create new Class Notebook as the same as old Class Notebook (where the Collaboration Space is missing) and distribute the pages from old Class Notebook to new Class Notebook.

You can refer to this article: Distribute Class Notebook pages and sections

    Regards,

    Chitrahaas

    Dear Chitrahaas,

many thanks for your immediate reply!

I can't try your first tip because the collab. section is nowhere to be found. I checked all the possible subfolders to see if I moved it by accident, but it's not there.

    Yes, I included the "-":

Thank you for making me aware of the Restore function of OneDrive, which I did not know. However, neither do I know even the rough date when the folder disappeared, nor would I be willing to go through this much trouble. Everything else is working just hunky-dory, and wouldn't want to risk losing any data or spend lots of time restoring everything.

It'd be great if your guys could offer a "repair class notebook" option that includes a fix for my issue. Please let me know if I can help by providing any more information.

    Best regards,

      Matthias.

    Hi Matthias,

We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused by it.

From the description provided, as you had tried to Fix notebooks, we would like to know that have you tried the below one:

You can refer to this article: Fix Class Notebook when Welcome, Collaboration Space, or Content Library are missing.

If the fix permissions don’t work, as you mentioned you had created a section with the name, have you named underscore (_) in front of it? We mean _Collaboration Space, if no, try to name it and run the Fix page again.

In addition, if you can recall the date of the incident happened, you can restore your OneDrive to the previous date of the incident occurred (should be less than 30 days). You can refer to this article: Restore your OneDrive, to perform it.

Note: If you’re performing the restore, make sure to back up the data that are uploaded to OneDrive for Business after the date you had selected to restore.

Please let us know the result to move further.

    Thanks,

    Chitrahaas
