Excel Combo Boxes Not Working

Anonymous

I just installed Office 365 (Excel 16.18) on my MacBook Pro running Mojave 10.14.1.

When I create a new Excel document and insert a Combo Box from the Developer toolbar, it doesn't work properly — nothing happens when the box is clicked. This is also the case when I open old Excel files with Combo Boxes that worked in Excel 2011 for Mac.

Other form objects such as Check Boxes and List Boxes seem to work fine.

I have several documents with Combo Boxes so this functionality is critical for me.

Thanks for any help!

Thanks Jim and Neha.

For some reason updating to v16.19 fixed the problem for me, at least for now. Not sure why it wasn't working for you, Neha. I'll update you if the problem comes back.

    Hi TravisNF,

When you select Combo Boxes in Developer tab and move the cursor to the sheet area, the mouse cursor changes to four arrows, at this time you can simply click the sheet to insert the Combo box. I tested on my end and it does work in Excel 16.18 on Mojave 10.14.1.

If the issue persists, please provide the following information:

    1.       When was the last time you inserted the combo box successfully in a new sheet?

    2.       Did you make any changes recently in your computer?

    3.       Please check if you have any custom add-ins installed. For this, click the Insert tab, and then click My Add-ins. If you see any add-ins, please remove them and then check.

    Thanks,

    Neha

    Hi TravisNF,

Could you please provide a video showing the detail steps to reproduce the issue? Please record the video beginning with the creation of combo box and assigning input range, cell links. The video will help us test on our end.

Please upload the video in cloud location the then share the link in private message. Please click here to access your PM.

    Thanks,

    Neha

    Hi Neha,

Thanks for the reply. To clarify, I'm able to create a Combo Box and assign an input range and cell link, but once I've done that I'm not able to get the box to actually do anything.

This is the case with both brand new documents and old documents with existing Combo Boxes. A document with Combo Boxes that works in Excel 2011 and also works in Excel 16 on my iMac running High Sierra does not work in Excel 16 on this MacBook Pro running Mojave.

    To answer your questions:

    1. Haven't successfully operated a Combo Box in Excel 16 on this computer. Only on other computers or on this one using Excel 2011.
    2. No recent changes.
    3. I don't have any add-ins installed.

    Thanks again.
