Hi,

I have a number of users who's Excel 2016 crashes or even quits when importing data from: text/csv, from web, or from table/range.

I notice a 'loading .net framework' message appear in the bottom right corner and then the crash/exit of the application occurs.

.net framework is up to date, as is Office and Windows 7.

I've created new windows profiles (on multiple machines), disabled the anti-virus and uninstalled to be sure, started Excel in safe mode.

The below error appeared in the event log:

.NET Runtime version 2.0.50727.8789 - Fatal Execution Engine Error (000007FEF43005AE) (80131506)

Event ID 1023

Can anyone help please?

Thanks,

James

    Hi James,

To troubleshoot the issue, I would like to confirm the steps you’ve taken to import data:

    From txt/csv:

    1. In Excel 2016, Go to File > Open.
    2. Select Text Files from the Open dialog box.
    3. Locate and double-click the text file that you want to open.
      • If the file is a text file (.txt), Excel starts the Import Text Wizard. When you are done with the steps, click Finish to complete the import operation.
      • If the file is a .csv file, Excel automatically opens the text file and displays the data in a new workbook.

To import from web, you've followed the steps below:

    1. Click the Data tab, then From Web.
    2. In the From Web dialog box, enter a web page URL, then OK.
    3. Click OK.

To Connect to an Excel table or range:

    1. Select any cell within your data range.
    2. Click the Data tab, then > From Table/Range.
    3. If prompted, in the From Table dialog box, you can click the Range Selection button to select a specific range to use as a data source.

Please try the following suggestion, check if the issue is resolved:

    1. Check if Excel import works fine in safe mode (In the Run box, type excel /safe, and click OK.). Once you’ve stated Excel in safe mode, try importing data and check if you still get the same issue.
    2. Re-start Excel in normal mode, check if you have any custom add-ins installed in Excel, click File > Options > Add-Ins. At the bottom of the dialog box, change the Manage dropdown to COM add-ins, and select Go. Clear the checkbox for any enabled COM add-ins. select **OK.**After disabling add-ins check if the error occurs when importing data.

If your import steps differ from above, please provide detailed steps. Along with this, I would like to confirm the following information:

    1. Please provide the screenshot of Office 365 Product Information. To get this screenshot, open Excel, click File>Account, capture the screenshot of all the information mentioned under Product Information.
    2. A screenshot of the error.
    3. Since when are you getting this issue? Is it after an Office update?
    4. Did you make any recent change in your computer?

    Thanks,

    Neha

    Hi James,

You’ve provided the MSO version of Office whereas I need the screenshot of Product information as shown below. (Note: Please mask the personal information from the screenshot).

In addition, do you have access to OWA? If so, you can check your OWA to see if you have the screenshot of the error.

    Thanks,

    Neha

    Hi Neha,

When using any of the features on the Data tab Excel crashes.

As mentioned, I've tried Safe Mode and the same thing still happens.

I can't get you a screenshot of the error because Outlook crashes.

We get the error since we've upgraded to Office 2016.

    Thanks,

    James
